Puskaric Announces Safe School Grants
10/18/2019
JEFFERSON HILLS – Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Allegheny/Washington) today announced that the West Jefferson Hills School District has been awarded a $20,000 Safe Schools Program Grant by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

“The safety of our schools is a top priority and this funding helps to ensure students, faculty and staff have the safest learning environment possible,” said Puskaric. This grant will help protect students and ensure taxpayer dollars used to support our schools can be prioritized in the classroom.”

The program provides funding for initiatives under PDE’s comprehensive safe school plans. This includes the planning and implementation of activities that prevent or reduce violence by and against youth on school property and/or transportation to and from school and for security-related training.

Safe Schools Targeted Grants assists schools in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. In addition, the funding assists schools in procuring the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff.

PDE’s Office for Safe Schools offers four types of safety grants: equipment grants of up to $25,000; program grants of up to $20,000; School Police Officer (SPO) grants of up to $40,000; and School Resource Officer (SRO) grants of up to $60,000.

Questions about this or any legislative issues may be directed to Puskaric’s Jefferson Hills office at 412-382-2009.
