HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Allegheny/Washington) commended UPMC and Highmark for reaching a new 10-year, in-network contract. The legislator issued the following statement:

“Today’s agreement is one of those decisions that, as a state lawmaker, I am very happy to say that the free market could do its job and deliver a win-win solution for patients, doctors and all other stakeholders. Although this hard-fought agreement was several years in the making, I am beyond pleased that a resolution was finally reached with minimal government intervention.

“The people of western Pennsylvania deserve no less from two of the region’s largest health care entities. This issue is of vital concern for our region, as it affects several million residents. The complexity and emotion of this debate has been difficult, and I look forward to a return to normalcy as this patient-centered agreement moves forward.”
