– Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Allegheny/Washington) today announced that a $750,000 state grant has been awarded to Jefferson Borough for wall reconstruction at the RiverLift Barge Dock.
Puskaric advocated for the funding through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) program.
“The $750,000 grant is great news to our area,” said Puskaric. “This funding will certainly go a long way in helping to fund the wall reconstruction project so that Jefferson Borough will be able to make the necessary upgrades. It will hopefully allow businesses to grow and create a number of new jobs.”
The proposed project will replace the entire embedded barge loading/unloading dock structure at RiverLift Industries with a new 500-foot steel sheet pile wall and tie-back system. The new wall can be installed close to the riverside edge of the dock without disturbing the existing structure.
Funding for the project was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act.
RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. These projects have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are funded by the state and cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
For nearly 20 years, RACP has reported numerous successes, with billions of dollars being injected into communities across Pennsylvania for valuable economic development projects.
The 39 Legislative District includes parts of Bethel Park in addition to Elizabeth, Elizabeth Township, Forward Township, Jefferson Hills, West Elizabeth, and parts of South Park Township in Allegheny County.
