A package of bills designed to redevelop Pennsylvania’s infrastructure, boost economic growth, and provide family sustaining jobs known as “Energize PA” was the topic of a press conference held on Wednesday in Harrisburg. Lawmakers were joined by natural gas workers as well as business advocates to support legislative measures that would revitalize brown field sites and take advantage of abundant natural resources available in Pennsylvania.

House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and fellow legislators unveiled “Energize PA,” a pro-growth, pro-jobs legislative package that will create jobs and redevelop infrastructure with no new fees or taxes. Turzai and House Republican bill sponsors spoke at a Capitol press conference this week in Harrisburg about the package that is designed to create jobs, re-use abandoned manufacturing sites, and streamline permitting processes for brownfields and other sites. Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Washington/Allegheny) is the prime sponsor of a bill in this package.

Gov. Tom Wolf unveiled his 2019-2020 state budget proposal on Tuesday in Harrisburg. The $34 billion spending plan represents a nearly 1 billion dollar increase in state spending over last year. Rep. Michael Puskaric (R-Allegheny) said he is optimistic, but wonders where the money will come from for new spending.

Members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives were sworn in Tuesday in Harrisburg with the members taking the oath of office in the House chamber at noon to officially begin the 2019-20 legislative session. Republicans hold a 110-93 majority in the House with 19 newly elected Republican members. This is the fifth consecutive term that Republicans have retained majority control of the PA House. Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Allegheny/Washington) offered comments on the swearing-in ceremony and opening of the new legislative session.
